Total hygiene, inside and out
Direct Watercoolers, in conjunction with BioCote®, recently undertook a study at an office and manufacturing facility in the West Midlands to investigate the effectiveness of a Direct Watercoolers BioCote® treated Watercooler verses an untreated mains fed Watercooler and a bottled water cooler.
BioCote® is the leading brand in antimicrobial technology. BioCote’s® innovative silver technology is incorporated into Direct Watercoolers’ mains-fed watercoolers at the time of manufacture, to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms on the coolers surface. BioCote® effectively reduces the levels of bacteria and gives added protection against Listeria, Legionella, MRSA, Ecoli and Salmonella.
For the study, swabs were taken from an in use Direct Watercoolers’ BioCote® treated Watercooler, an untreated mains fed watercooler and a bottled Watercooler from the 3 main bacteria build up areas – faucet, drip tray top and drip tray base. The testing ran over a 4 month period and the swab samples were taken at the same time each week and analysed at an independent laboratory for total counts of bacteria (TVC) and the presence of specific strains of medical importance.
Proven results
The study demonstrated 82% less bacterial contamination on a Direct Watercoolers BioCote® treated Watercooler compared to an untreated mains fed Watercooler and there was 94.5% less bacterial contamination on the Direct Watercoolers BioCote® treated Watercooler compared to a bottled Watercooler.
In addition to the bacteria testing on the Watercooler, bacteria tests were also taken on the water from each of these dispensers. The results show that there was less than one total viable bacteria (TVC) count in the Direct Watercoolers BioCote® treated Watercooler, 1 TVC in the untreated mains fed Watercooler and more than 300 TVC in the bottled Watercooler. This independent test proves that a Direct Watercoolers Watercooler with in-tank UV significantly destroys bacteria and is far safer than a mains-fed watercooler with in-line UV and a bottled Watercooler with no UV at all. A Direct Watercoolers Watercooler with in-tank UV is therefore the best choice providing clean, safe drinking water.
Overall these results prove that a Direct Watercoolers Biocote® treated Watercooler with in-tank UV, significantly destroys bacteria on the Watercooler and in the drinking water, providing total hygiene inside and out and is the intelligent choice when purchasing a watercooler.
